Born in Portland, OR on Sept. 16, 1913. After attending high school in Salem, Coldwell moved to San Francisco in 1933.Enrolling at the CSFA, she studied under Ralph Stackpole and Constance Macky. She then obtained her art teacher’s certificate at UC Berkeley and San Francisco State College. During 1939-41 she worked on sculpture projects for the WPA. Since her marriage to Bruce Lathrop in 1942, she has continued to live in San Francisco. She painted oils and sculpted in clay, wood and stone until 1945 and switched to watercolors.
